I’m having my first solo art show this coming June. INVITE DESIGNED! Time to get moving on this work in progress ;)
The Earth with ART is just…!!!!! :)—Post Malasimbo Part 1

They say that the Earth without ART is just eh, so when a few too-clever event organizers decided to marry the two together, an affair nothing short of a creative fairytale was born.
Experience its perfect chemistry and feel-good energy surging through your veins. It’s pure beauty and the beat: say hello to the Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival, and find out (MORE) why this 3-day nature trip does nothing but satisfy my wanderlust craving.
It’s the ideal combo meal of everything I LOVE; hence: 7 Reasons why partying on this mountain rocks my flower-child world!
Reason #1: The Backdrop

Let’s just say I love the earth and everything about it.
With the event grounds situated atop an inactive volcano (Mount Malasimbo), pit against the scenic Puerto Galera Bay, there’s no denying that this music festival is simply a beauty to behold.

There’s nothing quite like it. Where can I lay on the grass, stare at the stars, listen to the most amazeballs live music, and feel the fresh mountain breeze blow against my face all at the same time?!

The moon lit up the night too :)
Reason #2: The ART
Nature’s awesome, but having beautiful pieces of art scattered around the event grounds is just the cherry on top of this festival. Yes, the Earth with ART is just mind-blowingly wonderful.

One of my favorite art pieces from Malasimbo 2012. (Follow the artist on tumblr) They’re the sweetest sculptures I’ve ever seen. :) Too pretty to eat though.

Check out the installation up close.

Malasimbo 2013: I can never resist anything sea-inspired. Not only is this Man-of-War sting-free, it glows!

Reason #3: The Indie
I would have never imagined seeing grammy winners like Joss Stone and Jimmy Cliff perform in the same event as local music mavens like Grace Nono and Bob Aves; heck even my college friend’s band (Ivan Theory) performed.

PH Champions of Filipino-World Music whose unique sound blends indigenous Filipino instruments and chanting with a contemporary touch. The Grace Nono-Bob Aves Group has represented our country in numerous cultural events around the world. Nono and Aves are highly acclaimed musicians and activists in light of the preservation and enrichment of Filipino pre-colonial culture.
I was so enchanted (not exaggerating) with Grace Nono’s performance. She not only OWNED the earth goddess vibe with her hair-raising number (ala Avatar), but embodied genuine Pinay beauty as well. (Majorly contrasting the Glutathione culture crap that the PH media’s been white-washing our sun-kissed morenas with. ANTI-WHITENING all the way.)

Malasimbo Moment: When a bug landed on her cleavage while on stage. She freaked out and giggled in the most adorable manner!—which of course charmed the crowd all the more. There were more than enough awwws to go around!
Nahirapan si Joss Stone kumanta dahil sa gamu-gamo. #OnlyInMalasimbo
#GirlCrush = I want to be like her when I grow up!

My latest set of paintings are on their way to their new home in Canada. :) Hoping and praying my client (who’s been missing the Philippine seas) likes them. *FingersCrossed
Whether or not he does: at the end of the day, I had fun!

Couldn’t help but feel iffy outside my painting-comfort-zone—BUT truly grateful to know that my client was satisfied! Phew. :)
